When Jack and Lucy-Ann - with Kiki, the talkative parrot - go to stay with Philip and Dinah, they expect a quiet holiday. And, at first, it looks like it's going to be just that. But then, one day, they meet Bill Smugs - and he takes them out in his sailing boat. Jack, fascinated by birds, wants to go to the Isle of Gloom, but Bill refuses, saying that he couldn't navigate past the rocks that surround the island. Undaunted, Jack is determined to go anyway... and the adventures begin.
