This work includes various types of nudes as has been taken by anonymous and better known photographers. The work shows nudes of men and women, and even children. In addition, the subjects are of various ages. However, race is a missing subject in the collection as only one photo of black woman is included, and other races are ignored. There are written sections by Robert Sobieszek and Ben Maddow. Sobieszek addresses the erotic photography. He discusses the ideas of pornography, and how erotic photography has included the "pornographic or the aesthetically spiritual." In addition, he discusses objectification. Maddow's "Nude in a social Landscape" highlights the aspects of the real world as captured in each photograph. He argues that the real world captured in a photography is altered by perception of the viewers. Within the scope of this argument, he addresses the "visual pleasures of sex." A brief history of photography, beginning with the daguerreotypes, is included. This work is important for those collecting the history of nude photography.
